Parent, Leader, Player, Coach
I'm tackling one of my biggest life goals this year
Watch out 2024, it’s time to get serious.
Big Goals processing
If you know me, you know that I love to write.
My family has been trying to get me to write a book for as long as I can remember. And I'm not putting it off any longer.
This year, it’s one of my Big Goals.
Parent, Leader, Player, Coach
The book I’m writing is part the parenting book I wish I had when my kids were born and the leadership book I wanted when I became a first-time manager.
Yes, being a parent is a lot like being a first-time manager.
I’ve been leading teams for the better part of my career.
But my leadership skills grew exponentially when I became a parent. Not only was I a more effective player, I was a more effective coach.
Note: I don’t think you have to be a parent to be an effective leader. And I don’t think all parents are great leaders! There is no one reality for every situation.
Calling all parents
Parents: I’m looking for stories to include in my book. Specifically: lessons you learned as a parent that you applied to leading teams.
What did you learn?
What made it successful?
Do you have an anonymized anecdote you can share?
My ask: if you have a story and want to share it, send me a note or reply to this email! I’m collecting written stories and will do a few interviews along the way.
If you don’t feel comfortable writing in, but want to be involved, drop me a line and I’d be more than happy to chat 🤗 .
Thank you, truly! This feels like a big, necessary step and I’m grateful to have the support of the Break Room community as I go.
I can’t wait to share more soon.
Happy 2024!
Kat
